Our quality management team
We have a quality management team who are responsible for steering the company’s quality systems, maintaining our external certifications and carrying out internal audits on the different areas of our business. Our quality systems are reviewed by an external auditor from Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) every six months to ensure that they are being maintained and ensure we can demonstrate continuous improvement.
ISO 9001
It is important to PDMS that our processes and procedures comply with the most rigorous industry standards whilst allowing us to continually improve our services and customer satisfaction levels.
To demonstrate our commitment to this, PDMS has achieved certification to the global quality management standard, ISO 9001. PDMS first gained its original BS EN ISO 9001:2000 certification in 2003, in 2009 achieved the updated BS EN ISO 9001:2008 standard and in 2016 achieved certification to the newly updated BS EN ISO 9001:2015 version of the standard.
By having this long-standing commitment to our ISO 9001 certification, PDMS is able to demonstrate that our business systems meet the stringent requirements of this internationally recognised standard, ensuring that our process and procedures are controlled helping PDMS achieve a high level of consistency and quality of service for our customers.
The certification covers all of PDMS’ departments across the Isle of Man and UK offices.
ISO 27001
In an age where cyber security has never been more important, PDMS has underlined its commitment to information security through its certification to ISO 27001. This certification helps to provide a framework for managing our security responsibilities for both our internal business and our customers’ systems and is a useful management tool in the battle against a wide range of information security hazards.
ISO 27001 allows PDMS to demonstrate that it is following best practice, and delivers an independent, expert assessment of whether the data that we safeguard is sufficiently protected. Our certification enables us to provide external assurance for our customers that PDMS are managing their data responsibly in an ever-changing landscape regarding data security. ISO 27001 outlines standards specific to information security management; the standard focuses on areas such as security policy, physical and environmental security, access control and incident management.
In October 2005 BS 7799 part 2, was revised and formally adopted as a new international standard, ISO/IEC 27001:2005. PDMS was one of the first companies to be assessed and certified against this new updated standard. Likewise, in July 2014, PDMS was awarded certification to the now internationally respected standard ISO/IEC 27001:2013, superseding the 2005 standard. In doing so we were amongst the world’s first to be certified.
ISO 14001
PDMS is a socially responsible company and as such takes its environmental obligations seriously. In order to demonstrate this commitment, all PDMS offices are certified to ISO 14001.
We have established an Environmental Management System and have introduced a number of initiatives to help us reduce the environmental impact of our operations. These include virtualising our network and reducing the number of servers to reduce electricity consumption, recycling waste paper and investing in online conferencing facilities to reduce travel, particularly between our Head Office in the Isle of Man and Glasgow office.
Cyber Essentials Plus
PDMS has been awarded the UK Government’s Cyber Essentials Plus Certificate of Compliance through one of the industry’s CREST certification bodies.
The overall Cyber Essentials certification program is a UK Government-backed and industry-supported scheme that guides businesses in protecting themselves against cyber threats; allowing organisations to demonstrate to customers and partners that cybersecurity is taken seriously. The certification aims to ensure that security controls are fully set up and working effectively ensuring the secure configuration of an organisation’s computing resources.
During the process, the certifying body assessed PDMS against a number of criteria at three distinct stages:
- Self-assessment questionnaire
- Remote threat scan
- Onsite vulnerability assessment
The Cyber Essentials Plus scheme is a thorough assessment of the organisation and builds upon the requirements of the basic certification; as a result providing greater security assurance. Our network and workstations were subjected to an onsite technical review by a representative of the certification body and this additional phase of testing increases the validity of certification considerably by providing evidence of compliance against the following areas:
- Prevention of malicious files entering the organisation from the Internet through either web traffic or email messages
- The effectiveness of the anti-virus and malware protection mechanisms, should malicious content enter the organisation
- The likelihood that the organisation will be compromised due to failings in the patching of the organisation’s workstations, in the event that the organisation’s protection mechanisms fail
As an approved G-Cloud supplier, working with a number of central and local UK Government organisations, the Cyber Essentials Plus certification provides added reassurance in relation to our IT security.
